    68 Tri Power Holley date codes

    I've looked in the archive and they confirm what I thought, which is the date code is 3 digits, Year, Month, week of month. My front carb and center carb are 833, which I thought is 1968, March, third week. The rear carb which I know has been replaced sometime in the past has a code of 988, which makes no sense.

    I'm pretty sure I'm reading it right, as I took all of them off today for a long over due overhaul.

    What am I missing?

    Rich -

    Sure it isn't 983?

      How about a 9B3 = 1969 December 3rd week? This would most likely be in the 1970 model year though.

        I'll look again. I know this carb is too late for my car, but I was confused when I read 988.

        I'll look closer tomorrow. Thanks for confirming the code.

          I'm a little confused on my carb dates. Both my front and back carbs show dates of 841 (1968, April, 1st shift), however my center carb has a date of 8A2. Why would the center carb have a letter "A" instead of a number for the month? I don't have my judging manual handy so I don't have it as a reference.

            Mark,

            841 = 1968 4th month (April) 1st week

            How do you get 12 months with only one character? What do you do for November if October = 0?
            A = November
            B = December

              That makes sense. I gotta find my manual soon. Thanks

                Looking at Mark's center carb / outboard carb date span (6 months, 1 week) leads me to ask if, generally, the primary is always dated several months later than the secondaries ? Seems like most I've seen tend this way.

                My own original late '69 L68 4-sp. setup has a 3 month span (951 for the LIST 3659's; 981 for the center LIST 4055-1).

                  Well, after looking at the date code in good light with my glasses off, the last digit IS a 3. Not an 8. So, all is good with the world again. Thanks.

                    Re: 68 Tri Power Holley date codes

                    Regarding date span, my 68 has the original front and center carbs and they are both dated 833. The rear carb was replaced early in the life of the car. It is dated 993, obviously not original.

                    The build date of my car is July 18, 1968
