Is the date in the circle with the big A in the middle? If so I have O on one side I on the other of the big A. Then below the A is co. The manual says the date should be on the outside edge on a flat spot and stamped. If this is correct I need help? Thanks Tom

Re: 65 fuel tank date?
That is exactly it. I have the trank about 80% clean except for some undercoating or blackout . I don't see anything as of now. I don't want to disturb the tank too much in fear of staring another problems. I have no leaks right now and would like to keep it that way.I am sure it is original but would like to find the numbers. Tom- Top

Re: 65 fuel tank date?
Tom -- I can't see any reference to a date in the '65 TIM&JG, 5th ed., page 159 (top). Can you give us more info on where and in what manual ?- Top

Re: 65 fuel tank date?
Jack -- I copied that 1964 photo that Joe T. (?) posted, showing the rows of tanks on a pallet. Seemed to be stencilled with "ST LOUIS" (first line), and a part number (?) on the second. This particular photo showed every tank so marked, but I agree that a very small percentage of the tanks of other years had such markings.- Top

Re: 65 fuel tank date?
I am not sure There is a date, but here is a link to check out about the stencils
There are others as well .
Do an advanced search in the Technical Discussion under "gas tank Stencil"..

Re: 65 fuel tank date?
I think I have to apologize. I had my shop helper reading the manual while I was under that part of the car. I think what she thought was where she read a notch stamped into the lower outer edge of the fuel tank on page #159. Then below that she saw the serial#'s and the months think that should be stamped into the tank. Sorry for the confusion. Tom Stanton- Top

Re: 65 fuel tank date?
Jim -- yes; did you notice that the stencil is on the bottom half of the tanks (corner tab bends down toward ground), and that characters are upside down when tank installed.
When I removed the tank from my late '65, I took special care when cleaning off the gunk, ready to record any stencil. I found nothing.- Top

I can't figure out why they stenciled any of them, as they were only for a corvette, and went into all of them , (except for 36 gals). One stencil on the pallet would have sufficed. And in fact probably did after 64.
