    Carb fittings

I am going to be installing a newly restored correct model & dated Carter AFB carb on my 64 300hp 327. I would like to know if I need to put any kind of thread sealer or tape on the threads of the vacuum and gas fittings. I understand the flared fittings don't need any sealer but what about the other fittings?
Also I would like to thank you all for all of your help with my previous questions!!!

The non-flared fittings such as the fittings that go into the fuel filter are "dryseal" NPT type. They should not require any sealer. However, if you wish to use some on this type fitting you can. On any of the flared fittings, using sealer is a waste of time and may even be counterproductive. These fittings do not seal at the threads so sealer on the threads will do nothing.

Also, if the brass vacuum fittings at the rear of the AFB are 1/4" NPT(pipe thread) are the same as our 63 300hp AFB setup....... If so I would use a light amount of pipe sealer on those. It may have those for power brake, or PCV. This one had aftermarket A/C and had vacuum vent/defrost controls.

i also will be putting together these fittings:

        fuel pump
        water pump
        carb

for the NPT it always seems like they get tight when
the fittings is 180 degrees off....what do you do?

Yes this is so common. A real PITA. I usually remove the fitting, apply more pipe sealant and stop when it gets in the right position. It usually works out ok. I don't like teflon tape or the teflon paste as you can actually over tighten because it's so slippery. I use a crayon like pipe sealant that gets harder with age and seals very well.

You don't want to keep tightening any of these as you may break the female casting on carb, fuel pump etc. Then it's really trouble.
