    Screw finish for headlight buckets

So, I read the TIM/JG, and it says that the 6 screws per headlight bucket that hold the trim piece to the bucket itself should be plated.

When the buckets are open, the ones on the bottom for me are plated, but the ones on the side are black.

    Should I fix that?

The question would be, Plated with what?

As far as I am concerned the four screws should be black oxide.

          Ok, let me try again.

Should all 6 screws have the same finish?

          If so, what?

Lets try to get on the same page. The HL bezel ?, is held on by two screws in very early 63, and four later though 67. Is that what we are talking about?

On our Duntov 66 the 4 screws that hold in the headlight bezel are zinc plated. They are not black oxide.

Also the 67 NCRS Manual states they should be zinc plated.

Thanks Dave, that's what I figured.

So you believe Dave, who has a Duntov car. Being Duntov, doesnt mean everything is right. It may be, there may have been both bright and dark screws, but I can tell you the screws that I know are original are darker than your typical Zinc plated.

That may be true for 63. The 63 is in its own world. There was at least three different arrangements also.

Re: Screw finish for headlight buckets

The whole reason for this post was to figure out if all screws on the headlight bezel (sorry I earlier stated 6 and there are only 4) should all be the same finish or not. Then, what finish.

Mine right now are black on the sides and zinc plated on the bottom (once the buckets are open).

I haven't gotten a deduct on this in two rounds of chapter judging, but in reading through the TIM/JG the other night, it just said that the screws should all be chrome. So, my black ones are probably wrong.

Just trying to gather information to understand if the BOOK is not quite right, or if I should buy a couple more screws or not.

                          Chris,
If you are not at ease with the answers you have been getting, I would go with the JG. You could go one step more and check in with your team leader. Good luck.

But, if he read it right the JG said 6 screws. The JG is not necessarily right in all cases. Chris, the screws are different, bottom two and top two are different types, and they very well could have been finished differently. If those side screws are not of the painted black variety, I would stay with that.

                              Chris -

Actually, the JG calls for zinc or cad plating, not chrome.
