    C2 Carb Help

I am getting my 1966 L79 coupe ready to drive this summer, and I need need to replace the carburetor. I need some help. I will give the background first: My engine stamp pad is stamped F0412HP, the cast date of the block is C316, and the AO Smith body build date is I 15. I checked one birthday calculator, and it guesses April 25, 1966 as the birthday.

    1. I understand the 6 month window preceeding the build dates for components. I have found two carburetors. One is a 643, and one is a 641.
Will either of these work? Does anyone have advice on the best date range to select?

    2. Does anyone here have feedback on this ebay seller: ghostt from Islip NY?

    Thanks,

    Frank

ps. I see you list the "birthdate" as April 25, 1966. I would think the earlier dated carb would be a better choice: 641 (April, 1966, first week). If you get the later dated carb, there maybe some issues that the date is too close to your build date given the shipping issue. I think the 641 is perfect for your car.

        Anthony,

The body date is april 15. The one birthday calendar I checked said 25 April. Is there another date I should look for?

        Thanks,

          Frank,

What is the VIN on your car?

With this large difference in body to trim it is an AO Smith body?

              Ron,

              My VIN is #VIN# 194376S120080
The body is AO Smith. In my previous post I added a link to an ebay add. Does this plating and finish look correct?

              Thanks for the help.

Frank, I did look at that, looks like dichromate, paint it is muddy looking versus the metallic dichromate. You need to ask him to be sure as it could be a bad photo.

Also need to look very carefully at the numbers to be sure it was not a restamp from the late 80's that now has been restored after 30 years of ab-use.
Compare to other original carbs, compare fonts of the letters and numbers, they should all be exactly the same.

The link picked up a 1965 carb, that one is way too early...

The other thing is you do not see the stamp in his ad. If you get a picture, compare that to other carbs on the market.

                Beware of the restampers...

For those interested in 1966 Holley carbs - this is a test, an OMG, or we'll just have fun with the stampers out there. Go to the flea and search: 3884505. There will be 8 results, of those 8 carbs, how many are fake, meaning they did not leave the Holley factory with that lettering stamped that way???
