    54/55 starter switch

I was give a box of parts a friend found in the basment of his house labled 54/55 corvet parts. There were a few electrical parts one was a starter solenoid switch part #114269 6V NEW in the original box. Was this used in a Corvett? When did the conversion to 12V happen? I am a mid year person and dont know about such things.

I would expect to see 1118135 as the part number.

The '55 cars with optional V8 engine (almost ALL of the production build) had 12V systems while the 6 cylinder equipped cars maintained the '53-54 6V electrical system...

Are you sure that this is the complete part number? It looks like it could be a digit short. Also, is this in a Delco or GM box or is this some sort of aftermarket part and part number?

I left off one didget The # is 1114269. I was told it was from a six cylinder. I am just trying to find out if this is the case befor I give it to someone in need of it.

Well, it looks like I've gotten stumped now twice in one day; I must be losing my touch.

In any event, I looked high-and-low for this one. The only thing I came up with is that the GM #1114269 existed, was a starter switch and was still available as of the early 70's. After that, the trail is cold.

I can tell you this: it was never cataloged as a starter switch for ANY Chevrolet or Corvette application I can find going back to 1946 right up to the present. Also, it's a part number that I would say was released sometime in the later 1950's.

I also checked all Delco applications going back to 1955 for ALL GM Car lines, all other US-manufacturer car lines, and all truck lines, including HD, going back to 1946. It's nowhere to be found. But, it did exist. Of course, you already know that.

              Joe
Thanks for your effort. The person who had it may have found out it didnot fit his 54/55 corvette and put it back in the boox. Since it is inperfict new condition, it would be nice if it found a new home.
