    Re: 1966 exhaust panel

Is the difference, part number versus no part number the fact we have a side pipe panel and a thru-exhaust panel?

I saw 2 exhaust panels advertised as originals with the numbers 3863752 and 34744. Not sure if they ar GM numbers.

I checked a few out today. I seems to boil down to this. The side exhaust panels did not have the DT 1868. They had the part number up on the flange area. It would not be seen when mounted on the car. That is probably why those are saying some don't have the numbers. Non side exhaust panels had the numbers. This is for the 66-67 panel. I have not checked the earlier ones.

          Re: 1966 exhaust panel

I have a very late 1966 with a July 28th build date. I have a through exhaust panel. I don't know if this helps or not, but I've been under my car three times with a flashlight and I finally found the numbers. They read as follows:

          DT 40 1868 70 ..

The color of the panel is a dark charcoal. It sounds to me like the "70.." part of the number means it's a non-original panel. Hmmm.

Wayne - thanks for the data. That is always very helpful. This should get into the JG... JG leaders???

That would appear to be the case. I have an original black one in the shop that does not have the 70.

The panel on my 65 is the light color (bottom picture above), has no numbers anywhere other than an ink stamp of Jan 19 1965. It is an AO Smith body, obviously no side exhaust. I'm throwing this out there because I thought 65's and 66's were the same, or at least most of the 66's.

                  Jim,
Any possibility to send/post a picture of the date code stamp location?

65s had a totally different exhaust hole arrangement, with a different bezel. I have one here too and have found no numbers, but it has some repairs, so I am not sure if there are any anywhere on it.

It is at the top of the pass. side exhaust hole reinforcement.
