    Bloomington Gold

The wife and I have decided to use some vacation and airline miles to attend Bloomington this year. This will be our first time and given the size of the show can anyone give us some tips and things not to miss?

    Thanks,

    Glen

Call and reserve a room as soon as you can. Some of the hotels are already sold out in the area. As Mike was hinting BG has "changed" a lot over the past few years and depending on who you talk to not all were for the good of the Corvette hobby. IMHO with the current board of directors and owners they have turned their attention more to the auction/$$ than the judging/swap/comradery that BG was originally founded on. In the swap area there are still some with the vintage or original parts but a good number of the vendors have turned to the imported crap/knock-off parts from many of our well known vendors.

It's still a GREAT place to see thousands of SUPER looking Corvettes parked about the golf course. There's always some well known collectors bringing their prized possessions out for the rest of us to be able to enjoy. And all of this is included in your cost of the BG ticket. There is a for sale coral set up for guys to bring their cars in and there are usually some good deals to be made.

Along the lines of lodging for any one that has reservations at Pheasant Run Resort I just looked and today (April 24) is the last day to change/cancel any room you have at the resort without costing you.

Although there have been the changes at BG I'd still recommend going at least once to check it out.

        Glenn-
Great place to go. I've been going ever since they moved it here to St. Charles a few years ago, wouldn't miss it for the world. It's only about 40 minutes from my place so it's a nice drive. Love to take the 74, park out on the course and get some great photos for the old album. The swap meet and vendors section is also quite interesting, I spent alot of time in that area. Hope to see ya there. Also look for the NCRS booth, I helped out there last year. Got caught up on alot of the "gossip" out there.

I've attended the BG meet most years since 1972 or '73. I think we missed only two. Anyway, it has changed as some of the other posters have noted; but, it's still a great experience. I'd recommend the Saturday evening road tour. Lots of fun. Even though you're flying in, you should be able to get a ride just be asking around. A few years ago, we gave a ride to a visitor from England.

No more Road Tour, at least not 2010. I'm not sure if there is something on their web site, but there was a thread on here a couple of months ago about it. Basically they couldn't get help from the police for traffic control.

I would agree with Henry. The show has changed quite a bit in the last couple of years. There has been a lot of emphasis put on the auction. Try to make the Certification awards presentation on Sat. around 11:00 A.M. Terry is correct ,no road tour this year.

in regards to the auction i believe moving it inside has ruined it. the inside area is small and uninviting. the outside location allowed more people to view the auction and allowed more ease of movement to the auction site. having purchased cars in 2007 and 2008 at this auction, i intended on bidding in 2009. locating it indoors made me lose my interest in the auction and i never did enter the bidding area.
