Relays

I have a 1959 that came to me in complete disassembly. In one of the boxes there were two relays. One has 904 stamped on the mounting tab and the other has 781 stamped on the tab. I have looked at the wiring diagrams and only find the horn relay shown. Can anyone tell me if either relay is correct for my car. Also I would be interested to know what application the extraneous relay is for if someone knows this information.

781 is the horn relay and it should have a 5 hole bracket. the 904 is the correct starter relay for the 59 and is an expensive item to replace. the 904 is only used on automatic cars.

      Re: Relays

Thanks John, the 781 does indeed have a 5 hole tab but is in pretty tough shape, the 904 is in perfect shape. I have the aim, the passenger car supplement, and the st-12 53 to 62. I am either blind (which my wife assures me is the case) or the 904 relay is not called out on the wiring diagrams I have. Thanks again

        Work smarter, not harder!

Instead of staring at the wiring diagram (applies to BASE car only), flip the pages in your copy of the AIM to the AT option (FOA 313) at the back of the book. Now, look for the relay (1116904) call out and you should be home free...
