Welded tags have a habit of looking funny, note it has the correct early AC compressor housing, a fairly rare piece! Like to see more of it.

        Tom,
A LOT of the spot welds on the VIN tags look strange, they had a fair amount of problems with this and they is why they eventually went to rivets.

Tom, I am far from an expert, but I think that the VIN tag is probably legit. I have seen worse on '63's and '64's

Looks just like my previous 64 and looks better than my current 63. There is nothing suspect about it. Regular production.

Some friends and myself were discussing Vin Tags yesterday and it
was mentioned that GM punched and glued tags back then. This
tag looks punched. No way could this type of tag withstand welding.
This process was used on other GM cars also, according to one of
my friends. He mainly deals with Chevelles.

You may find a VIN tag glued to a Corvette, but I can assure that it did not leave the factory that way either. All the tags I have seen on vehicles built in the last 60 years or so were either attached with screws, welded, or riveted.

Looks fine to me. Just a factory error leaving out the space after the "S".

ALL '63-'64 Corvette VIN tags were spot-welded.

I agree. My 64 is earlier than this and it has the space on both sides of the "S". It is also spot welded. That is why the paint was ground off of the "Z" brace.
