C1 Gauge Date Stamps

Hello again to all,

The JM for '56/'57 states that "gauges have green backs with an ink stamp assembly date". I assume that means that the INSIDE of the can not outside is green. All outside cans of gauges I have seen are cad or some simular covering. Also is the ink date stamp on the outside? On the back or side?

I've only restored two 57's, but I don't recall the outside of any gauge cases being green - all were as you describe, with ink date stamps on the outside of the case.

Steve, probably should've said "may have green paint overspray". Have some examples and will post some photos when I find the box they're in. Gary....

Were the date stamps on the backs of the cans or on the sides?
