    Rally Wheel Paint

    Evening,
I did a quick search for Rally Wheel Resto,But didn't come up with much. I have 68 original propper dated wheels that were glass beaded ( Stampings are fine ) etched and primed. Any special company or paints you folks prefer. I've been around NCRS for quite a few years, but never see any articles on correct Semi Blacks and Silver Green Hues. Thank You for your help. Jeff

    Jeff-------

As far as I know, no one currently sells the "greenish hue" argent silver rally wheel paint. Paragon has or had a small stock left of the OEM Paints version but they were asking a pretty high price for it.

Quanta and OEM Paints were the only two that I know of that used to supply the "greenish hue" argent silver and both have discontinued it.

Otherwise, there are quite a few suppliers of the plain argent silver rally wheel paint. I don't know that one is better than another. The fact is that argent silver varied a lot over the years of its use.

      Joe,
I know there has been several threads here on the forum about the different "shades" of argent silver used throughout the rally wheel years. As you mentioned there are several suppliers of the plain argent rally wheel paint. In the past few years there have been several paint stores that offer to mix your own "recipe" in spray cans. Since you are the best there is at finding the right part number for any given part do you know of a source for finding the correct paint formulas used from year to year? Or is that information even out there? I'm sure there's been several "batches" mixed by members over the years trying to find the correct tint they are looking for. If that formula is available you would think a shop could just keep mixing until they come up with the right tint that fit their application. We have a shop here locally that just bought out another auto paint store that had that capability. One of the new owners is a buddy that's been around muscle cars his entire life and is aware that all rallys were not painted the same color. I'll try to make it by his shop next week to see if I can "stir up" any interest in experimenting. As I mentioned I'm sure many others here have tried it before. If anyone has a "starting formula" I'd be interested in it. I recall someone had posted one earlier which I believe was for PPG paints but not 100% sure.

Here's my formula for greenish argent silver along with pictures:

I like the color and it passed judging at a National with no deductions.

          Pat,
          Thanks for posting this.
          Shooter

PS Just checked your profile and noticed you had a super looking 70 marlboro maroon with saddle interior. Mine is a 67 maroon/saddle. I figured I may have to adjust the greenish tint in your formula since the 67 color may be different than yours.

My pleasure Shooter. Even if you have to adjust the formula to your taste, it's a good starting point, and in my opinion, yields better results than the pre-mixed rattle cans I tried.

Thanks for the compliment on my 70, it's easily my favorite color combo, and the main reason I bought my car. Your car is gorgeous as well, I think these colors really look great on Mid Years and Sharks. Great minds have similar tastes!

            Regards, Pat
