1972 Blue Drivers Door Label ?

We recently judged a 1972 base car the car was started December 23 1971 and was not completed till 1st week of January 72. On the Blue label the font for the VIN number changed just after the "S" and was up higher and about 1/2" further away then normal. Also were the date is typed top right corner there was a dark 1-72 but just below was a 12/71 fainter not as dark.

Just wondering if someone else has a car or photos of a label that has these same anomalies.

It would be interesting to see if there were some others like this over the same Christmas and New Years time frame. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1972 Blue Drivers Door Label ?

I have an 80 that the trim tag date is C21 (December 21, 1979), and it did not come off the line until the first day after the new year. The birthday book shows cars being produced on the dates between the trim tag/door date, but I do not believe that to be the case. Although not the same Blue Tag as in the 72, the tag in the door is dated 1/80.

      Paul,

If you had a photo that sure would help.

Patrick here is a photo. The Donnally is right mechanics do not how to use cameras. Its is written in all Pilots contracts Aviation Maintenance Technicians can't take photos of what Pilots damage or destroy so we were never learned how to use a camera. Paul 18046

I see that the label is torn and the Mylar has been messed with.
Was the car repainted and the damage occurred then? or allegedly original paint?

Yes Patrick the car was repainted and the label I was told was removed and reinstalled. Paul 18046

                  OK.

As you noted I think it would be nice to hear from late Dec/early Jan cars to see if they have anything similar.

That looks so bad I think GM made it or it's a repo joke.My question is how it was removed with no cuts or tears. I removed a few labels and they all had a cut or two.

                      Lyle,

There's a tear right through it, about 1/3 of the way in from the right side, extending all the way down.

If you had to take a picture of everything they break, you'd never have enough time to fix them.

Here's a pic of my old 72 LT-1's door label. I believe it's the original label still on the original door paint.
