    Steering Coupler (Rag Joint?)

I recently got an e-mail notice from Long Island Corvette Supply that they now have '63-'66 steering couplers in stock. I have been looking for one since I bought my '65 about 1-1/2 years ago. The one on my car has the wrong bolts.

Has anyone checked out these couplers for authenticity? I have attached a photo of the coupler from the LICS website catalog for review. Can you tell by the photo? -Clark

Those are probably rags made by corvette steering and are about the best you're going to find.

Do you mean they manufacture these things from scratch? If so, does that mean they have an in-house foundry there?

Ray are you saying you like the pattern in my avitar or suggest I need to follow Randy's book?

Interesting question Joe, I'll also stick with my previous answer on the 63-66 rags. The 67-82 are still GM stocked.

Joe, I can't say they have a foundry on-site but I offer the following. When once placing an order with LIC, I mentioned to the fellow taking the order that I liked dealing with LIC because I had never experienced an out-of-stock situation when ordering. His reply was something along the lines of ....that's becasue we manufacturer our own stuff and are not at the mercy of a supplier. For what its worth.
                  Best regards,

Yes, I was not trying to be at all sarcastic with my question. It is possible to have a mini-foundry to cast up small pieces. It would be unusual, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility. If so, that would be EXTREMELY interesting to me. I love all things related to foundries. In my mind, the cast and forged parts are the parts with, by far, the most "character" on a car.

                      Hi Ray
I thought that but sometimes people see a pattern and look for "text book" centering which most after market sets will not set up like. That set is a 373 vette set and most of the 373's end up like that. The GM 370 sets were more like text book but those are long gone these days.
