    68 gas cap

    Recently removed my gas cap on my 68 427 and got a good sucking sound, indicating there was a pretty strong vaccume in the tank. Is the cap supposed to vented or not. How about drilling a small hole in the cap?

      The cap is supposed to be vented.

          The 1968 cap is vented assuming you have the correct original or replacement cap. It should be embossed "VENTED".

          This cap relieves both pressure and vacuum. However, it does not relieve continuously to ambient pressure. A certain amount of pressure or vacuum must build in the tank before release occurs.

              Does the cap have the word "vented" on it, or does it say "sealed"?
