Radio 1968 - any different than 69 and up?

Hi - is the (stereo) radio for 68 any different (configuration wise) than 69 and up? If not, does that mean I can simply install a - for example - 69 radio plus amp in a 68 without losing points or have problems with using the 68 only knobs?

    Cheers, Erik

I can tell you this: the 1968 and 1969 stereo radios were exactly the same part number and I would expect them to be functionally interchangeable. However, I think there was a slight change in the radios between the 2 years even though the part numbers are the same. I seem to recall that the stereo indicator light may be slightly different.

I have an older Judging Manual for 68 and 69 and they describe the difference in the stereo radio between the two years as:
"On FM stereo equipped models in 1968 the word "Stereo" is in script lettering while in 1969 it is in block lettering. When receiving FM stereo, the word STEREO lights up in green for both years."
This may be the difference mentioned in Joe's post.

Thanks Lynn - I have the latest (3rd) edition in front of me now and still has the same text. So, does that mean that non stereo models are basically identical?

I believe cosmetically the only difference between the mono and stereo radios is the presence of the "stereo" indicator. The "stereo" wording lights up in green through 1971, and then just an illuminated orange "dot" in the dial beginning in 1972.
