67 SB Bellhousing overspray 4 speed

I've done several searches and can only find later and earlier answers. Looking for amount of overspray on the aluminum bellhousing, L79 (327/350hp). 1", 2", 6"? AND how much of the circumference, 10-2 o'clock, 8-4, all the way around???
    Thanks!!!

The degree of coverage is not specifically defined as it varied GREATLY with the aggressiveness of the specific painter/specific day of painting. Most judges simply look for a 'reasonable' presence of overspray and let it go there.

The same kind of detail (or lack of detail) goes for other assembly items that were subject to human factors like where this/that sitcker or label was affixed...

As John Hinckley told us in prior posts the line rate of production for engines at Flint and Tonawanda was somewhere in the 300 units/hour range. That translates into a whooping 5 minutes/engine to get the paint laid down!

I also had the same question. It varies, see my interpritation after my research. Car is number 276. Completed the rolling frame around Feb 2010
      Good luck.

        Jack -

More like twelve seconds per engine...

            Jim,
I have read somwhere (through the archives I believe) that all small blocks had full coverage based on the plant they where assemble. I believe it was the BB cars that had partial coverage. I'm sure that some of the big dogs will chime ( Joe L. Jack H. you know who you are) in and give the specifics. I went through this last year with a 67 BB restoration.

Tonawanda engines typically got more paint coverage on the bellhousing than those from Flint V-8; photo below shows racks of big-blocks on the St. Louis rail dock, fresh out of the rail car, and you can see the full coverage.
