    Hood Surround Driprail-rosebud Rivot

While preparing my 67 coupe for paint we noticed several unique things on the surround driprail.
A rosebud rivit on the vertical side of the hood surround driprail, unpainted on both sides of the car several inches down on the side driprail on the vertical edge from the driprail that goes across at the firewall.
Also on the surround driprail at the fire wall location several inches from the driverside towards the center is a raised dot, almost like a paint drop approx 1/8" x 1/8' high. My body mechanic says we should leave it there and not sand away, that it is a rare indication of an original condition piece. He said its like the runs some people glassbead away on the original air cleaner bases because they were dipped.
This appears to be original paint in this area and I would think when I'm done the rivots should still be unpainted and leave the raised dot.
I'm using lacquer paint not the basecoat, clearcoat process. My friends think I'm nuts spending so much time and money on lacquer. When I got the invoice for the paint I almost fell over.
Looking for some feed back, or am I being to OCD about this and way too much attention detail?
Thanks for any feedback in advance

The "dot" is definitely something you should leave on the car and be careful not to destroy or degrade in any way. This is something I have looked for for years on midyears to help determine if the surround had been replaced or repaired.

Agree with Lynn. Leave the "dot" as it is an indication that the body hasn't been messed with during it's life. Judges definitely look for it.

The pauple is original and will be at the 13Th. rib of the vent grille. The rivets are probably also original, some had the rosette rivets, however they should be painted. Is this an AO Smith car?
