Wonder where he found those tags and machine. Hard to tell if it's replaced because attachment is with pop rivets.

I may end up buying the Al Grenning et al Trim Tag Book to further my education on the subject. I think that besides the engine pad, that is the second most faked/swapped bit of documentation for a car.

Bill Clemens has been selling trim tags & POP's for YEARS. Everyone that that cares & ventures a guess on here about trim tags,POP'S,original paper work & engine stamps need to get the NCRS books & attend a seminar about these very things. Sometimes what appears to be fake is real & some that look real are fake. Knowledge & experience are the key to not getting a bogus Corvette.

Ken/Tim, I sent Bill an email inquiring about his tags. Here is his response:

"these are REPLACEMENT blanks made from old gm tooling about 25 years ago.a keen eye can put an original beside one and see the worn characters.they can be typed with the same machine that made the blank.again, very worn, but accurate dimensionally.there are no filing marks as the originals. most judges like them(contact GARY or ERIC mortimer at NCRS and inqire who has the best tag by state)TEXAS,but a few pros use a fiberoptic tool and can readily tell its a replacement.but its the best available the other makers are made with plaster molds and plastic dies. everything we use employs a FISHER BODY graphotyper.maybe that will give you an idea what we have available.i appreciate your inquiry. bill"
