To remove the sheath from the car, I will need to remove the grommet, correct? I tried to pull the sheath out but noticed the grommet was keeping all in place. More strength required on the pull, or is there a more elegant approach to removing the grommet without damage to all the parts concerned?

The gromet snaps in and can easily be removed. If you want to remove the gromet completely from the cable I soaked it in warm water to soften the rubber added some liquid soap as a lube and was able to slide it off the cable.

I wanted to get back to the group on what I did to fix the cable issues on the cheap, and I do mean cheap.

I would be curious how it holds up. I tried repairing my cable with a replacement cable kit that crimps together and it only lasted a year.
