67 BB shileding insluation installation advice

    67 BB shileding insluation installation advice

    I purchased the plastic insulation/lining for the my 390 67 from Long Island Corvette. It recommends using a glue gun to install the lining on the underside of the top ignition shielding. Is there a better, cleaner or different way to install this that you guys have found? That glue dries pretty fast and it dries thick. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks ARA

      Contact cement works for me but I just use a piece of inner tube that I cut to fit. I think it is a better insulator.

          Ara,

          The insulator of my original top shield was coming loose so I pulled it out, cleaned up underneath side and used sprayable (most any brand) adhesive to hold insulator to top sheild. No mess, no fuss.

              You might be right about the inner tube rubber being a better than factory stock insulator, but some consider the ramifications of judging...

              During Flight Judging, the upper shield is going to come off for visual access to the top of the distributor cap and the plug wires. Expect the judges to look at the bottom side of the upper shield for factory originality aspects. The translucent mylar shield with evidence of yellowish glue holding it down is a consideration...

                  I got docked on my insluation not being perforated ? are there any pictures of the insulation that the judges are looking for ? that are perforated .

                      I use yellow weather-strip adhesive. Great results and as the yellow glue heats and cools it turns slightly brown like the original glue did.
