67 spare tire tub bolt head markings?

I just read through this thread, but I still have a question.

    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...+head&uid=9516

What should the correct bolt head marks be for a 67 spare tire tub that holds the tub to the frame? I have "RBW" on mine. Yet, the Paragon book shows "LG".

    Thoughts?

Chris, If you are talking about the 4 bolts that fasten the tub to the frame I believe there was a thread going towards the end of last year about the tire tub bolt headmarkings and whether or not the bolts had a captured washer. I thought one common head many had was "E". Hopefully some of the guys involved with that thread will comment. I'm pretty sure John H. and Gerald Fuccilli both posted. Good luck, Shooter

      Chris,

here is what "should" have been used on the assembly line.

5/16-24 thread with a 1/2" recessed hex head 1/2" long. Some original headmarkings are D in circles, Anchor, RBW, GL, Blank and a few more I can't think of right now. The washer used was not a captured washer.

Now these tubs were removed anytime the gas tank or sending unit needed looking at and the bolts were routinly swapped out and coars thread bolts installed that would strip out the holes. Because the holes were just threaded into the frame and gas tank brace and would strip out VERY EASILY.

If you check the 63-65 AIM the same bolt was used for the fuel line (fine thread) and that is the pt# for the tub bolt 9420825 and the seperate washers pt # is 3748358..

So, if I have four RBW or four circle D's (either set) I should be fine? Assuming they are all black.

If the four fasteners are identical in length, size and configuration, the four do not even need to have matching heads as long as they are correct period headstamps; they can be mixed, e.g. three of one kind, one of another, or two and two. In my opinion, all head stamps matching would have happened most often, but odd (period correct) headstamps occur frequently.

Thanks Chuck, all four of mine ARE the same in configuration as you mentioned. I think I'll just leave them in.

Last time out, I ran out of time and had two of them still plated and two black. I lost a point for that. Now they're all black. I think I'm good.

              Chris or?

What size is the flat washer you are using, the 3748358 PN shown in this thread?

These were on my early '65. Can you guess the size of the plain washer from this pic ?

Hi Wayne, yes, I can scale them knowing the head size. thanks!
