1972 French lock's

Hi I'm installing the french lock's on my 72 350,and my question is where does the washer go???Between the manifold and the french lock or in between the bolt and the french lock??? I've tried between the lock and the bolt but there is no way the lock would function right,but if I put the washer against the manifold and lock it will work. Any help? Thank's Jim

I used the French locks and had problems. I put the French locks on and then the wiring Shields would not work. I ended up taking them off entirely. I am not sure that they are to be used with the 350.

French locks are the last item in the stack. That's so at least one tab can be bent up flush to a hex facet on the bolt to thwart it from turning...

All Chevy V-8's used french locks on the end pairs of exhaust manifold bolts; they go directly under the bolt head, with anything else in the stack below them.
