    1965 grill

My 65 grill is scratched and want to buff it out.
Is the grill stainless steel or is it chromed. What buffing wheel
would you use to remove the scratches and what compound.

They are anodized aluminum. So it will be hard to "Buff" any scratch. What will happen is depending on how deep the scratch is you will burn through the anodizing like paint. I would use 3M perfect it II with a soft cotton rag and proceede with caution.

Or, if you want to be really anal, disassemble the original grill, strip, fix dings and re-anodize, and re-rivet. Since repro grills have a couple issues with originality (rivet squash and design of blades) this may be worth it to you. But, be sure you re-rivet it correctly. I judged a car recently that the owner did just that, but did not get the squash quite right.
