What is the best way to get the battery out of my 65 roadster with A/C? I have run it completely flat twice, well my wife did it 1 time and me 1 time. But anyway I think it is toast so I will need to replace it. I don't know if I can take the cables of and wiggle it out or not? What is the recomended Everything is tight anyway then you have the A/C ducts and the compressor? Thanks Tom

Re: getting the battery out?
Hi Tom,
I'm going to assume the battery is on the right and your car has aftermarket AC like our 63 did. If not, stop reading here.
You have to drain some antifreeze from the radiator and pull the expansion tank and hoses from the heater core connections at the firewall. Then you have to just carefully work the battery out towards the engine and up at an angle tilting it lengthwise to get it by the exhaust manifold. Put a fender cover on the fender to protect the paint if something drips.
BTW, that's why I ended up doing a engine bay clean up on our 63 a year ago. One thing led to another. When you were looking at our 63 engine bay in Kissimmee that was the result of a battery change! Be careful.

Re: getting the battery out?
Thanks to all who answered. I got the battery out. It is a factory A/C car.I was able to do it without taking the panel off. Now if I can get the new one in thats another story. I don't have P.B. so no booster in the way. The A/C ducts I was refering to are the ones underneath the dash. Everytime you need to do something under dash they a square in the way. Thanks for all the help. Tom- Top

Just why would anyone want to take it out that way, when it is designed to come out the wheel well? Just like to do things the hard way?- Top

Re: getting the battery out?
I have been waiting for the replys to Toms post. A buddy had a 65 or 66 AC car and we removed the battery by doing just what Dick& Wayne said.
Now I have to remove an ouzing poc tar top from my 63FI car. (LWC)
Just today I was looking for a huge plastic bag-zip lock one to gift wrap the battery before I remove it and then put in nice fake sealed tar top.- Top

Re: getting the battery out?
New one is back in no problem. It was pretty easy and alot easier than taking the panel off.If I had p.b. and the booster to contend with I would have taken the panel off and gone that route, but totally uneeded in this case. Tom- Top

Re: getting the battery out?
On 1965 factory C-60 (A/C) cars, the battery is located in the fender
behind the driver's side front wheel. Taking the left front wheel/tire off is easy and removing the attachment screws for the removable inside fender panel makes changing the battery simple. I have done it myself recently and the hardest part was removing the tight spinner from the KO wheel. There are no A/C hoses or anything in the way on the driver's side engine area, just the washer fluid bag just above the battery. -Clark- Top

Re: getting the battery out?
Because it seemed easier than taking the wheel off and pulling the inner fender. Call me stupid but I had it out in about 20 seconds and back in about the same amount of time. I like to do things the easy way when the end result is the same!- Top
