    63 engine in 64 car

Is it possible for a March, 63 cast block to not have been assembled until November, 63, then put in a December, 64 car?

    Thanks,
    Mike

      Harry,

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told the block is dated "C173" and the pad says "4107336 FI209RD". (I guess that's really a December assembled engine)

      Thanks,

          Mike,

Thanks, that's what I thought. It would probably have had to have been "lost" in St Louis for a few months. Maybe they took it off the line in March to build a 64 buck, then used it in 64 production. Hardly likely.

I'm actually not interested in the car that this engine was in, (its gone) but I wanted a March, 63 870 block that had not been messed with too much. This one probably had to be decked in order to have these markings, so I won't pursue it.

I needed a block because I'm in the process of trying to build an L84 look-alike engine, using an L84 manifold, plenum, air meter, and stuff, but with electronic port fuel injection hidden to all but the most discerning eye (like yours). I've got about everything I need ready to put on, but I was hoping to put it on a correctly dated back-up engine for my car. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

          Thanks again,
          Mike

Seems more likely that he is misreading the casting date. I would venture a guess that it is I-7-3 and he is reading the screw tag preceeding the I as a C.

              Cecil,

That's possible, but the I's would have been used in October builds. I thought possibly a G could look like a C. Maybe I can get him to send a pic of the date.

              Thanks,
              Mike
