    L-36 - Holley Carb whistle..........

L-36 freshly rebuilt along with my factory Holley carb , also over hauled, along with slightly larger jets. 66 T. F. car. All carb gaskets are new.

Upon firing her up after installing carb I now have this annoying whistling sound from the center of the carb.

The carb is snug to the intake but sounds like it's sucking air, thus perhaps the whistling sound

    1) I believe the gasket sequence is Intake, gasket, metal baffle/heat shield, then carb...........pls correct if I'm wrong.......
    2) Any thoughts on a high pitched whistling sound from main bowl area or below.

    thank-you

use a piece of hose to your ear link a stethascope and see if you can pin point the leak. if the rebuilder did not machine the surfaces if they were warped you will have a whistle. you can try a gasket under the carb on top of the stainless plate

        Keith,
I had that happen twice with two 3367 Holley carbs. My whistle was coming from a gap between the main body of the carbs and the aluminum base. The thought was the intake of the L-79 engine was uneven and was warping the base plates. Bob Kunz (spelling) told over the phone to try two gaskets and that should help until I sent it out for a rebuild. I took a straight edge across the manifold and it was uneven - but since I had never done that to any other manifold I had nothing to go by. I had a friend who worked in a machine shop surface the intake and all is well. That was a buy a new carb for nothing deal.
I tried Clem's idea of the hose and even the unlit propane gas and could find nothing. But the problem is fixed now - My kid said I should have left it alone because it sounded like a blower whine.
