    327 pad marking

I have an extra engine with an 870 block cast in Jan, 63. The pad is shown on the attached pic. Can someone tell me what model this came in and what HP it originally had?

    Thanks,

    Mike,
Post the markings on the pad, the picture is not too clear.
If the stamping ends in a single "S" it is a 62-64 250 HP passenger car Powerglide engine.passenger car

      Bruce,

As near as I can tell it reads "FO205S". It has low-horse heads, so you are probably right.

      Thanks,
      Mike

        Michael,

That's a Flint block so it would work except for the stampings on a 63 car..

Interesting to note the two different 0's in the date stamp.

I find it interesting that the broach marks seem to vary in depth across the face of the pad. The "FO2" part of the pad has very pronounced grooves.

What is the scoop with the serial # stamping? Just courious, did someone remove part of it for some reason? Tom

Sorry Tom, I don't have any history on this block at all. The pad looks untouched, though. Maybe someone can tell us if some full size Chevys had numbers like these.

FO205S is the marking used on Chevy passenger cars in 1962, 1963 and 1964. It defines the engine as a 327 CI, 250 HP, Powerglide trans used in full size passenger cars.
Information is listed in The Lime Book.

Base engines on pass cars didn't get the VIN derivative stamp.

Are those numbers before FO205S some kind of other code, or maybe a re-build date?

Is this additional stamping indicative of what would be used by engine remanufacturers? If I recall correctly, some remanufacturers use an alpha code that identifies their company. This one could be a date of remanufacture.
                        Best regards,
