I have a 1970 454 w/Muncie 4spd. I can't figure out the back-up light switch linkage to reverse gear and can't find the configuration on any manual I have or any parts providers' web sites - all they show is the parts, but not how they go together. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Re: Question re: Transmission/back-up light linkage
Assembly Instruction Manual...it's a book of drawings the factory used to put these cars together; there's a dedicated edition for each model year. It's available at the NCRS store, and probably the most important "manual" you'll need if you're restoring a Corvette.- Top

Re: Question re: Transmission/back-up light linkage
While you're waiting for your AIM to arrive, I'll try to stutter and hand-wave my way through a description of the switch configuration for you...of course, you won't be able to hear the stuttering or see the hand waving:
The back up light switch bracket mounts at an angle to the bottom two cover bolts on the rear of the side cover. The switch mounts to the bracket with two screws with the switch arm UP. A wire link goes through the switch arm and is retained by a tiny cotter pin; the link then attaches to a round hole in the reverse shift lever, again retained by tiny cotter pin. When the reverse shift arm is shifted, the back-up switch is activated by the link rod.- Top

Re: Question re: Transmission/back-up light linkage
This supplier's online catalog has one view of the backup switch linkage installed on the transmission. Go to page 216 in the following link.
The view is not as good as the AIM, but with Chuck's description, it may be helpful.- Top

Re: Question re: Transmission/back-up light linkage
Thanks, that's the way I've been trying to install it (switch arm up) but the link seems to be about 1/8 inch too short. I know that can't be right, because, the SOB came off and I haven't changed anything. The main thing is the orientation of the switch arm itself. I didn' know if maybe it should be pointing down. I'll keep muddling through, but thanks.- Top
