    Intake manafold gasket

Which is the best original type intake manafold gasket to get? Can you lose points if you have the wrong on on? 69 350/300 auto.

    thanks

For judging -- Paragon has a reproduction of the side gaskets that after some modification will pass judging, but the only acceptable-for-judging end gaskets have to come from NOS gasket sets. Within the last few months there was an extensive thread on this very subject -- with instructions on how to modify the side gaskets, and some advice on where to find end gaskets with the GM logo on them. I would urge you to search for that thread.

"Best" is a relative term with respect to judging. in the case of the intake gaskets, "NOS from the era" is the First choice as they incorporate all the unique features that can be judged such as the configuration of the gasket to manifold outline, and the presence of the "GM" logo on the end seals. Reproductions are available, but most need some slight modification to achieve the correct configuration and the end seals lack the logo. Pretty much a question of how good do you want to be and how much are you willing to pay to get there? Paragon is a good place to start, with just a slight modification in the "tab" that sticks out beyond the intake manifold being needed to correct the configuration. As to the GM logo on the end seals, there is no current reproduction of those available that I an aware of.

Bill has a point. You might define what you mean by "best."

Here is one of about six recent threads. This one sums it up pretty well, IMO -- but you might find some interesting reading in some of the others:

My car is very original and is being put back together that way, it is a body on recondition. The car sat out side for years in the desert so I have to paint it, it will need new interior and some mechanical, but otherwise solid. So the closer I get to original the better. I do plan on having it judged some day, and any point I can save now is better.

          thanks

            Re: Intake manafold gasket

Ok, I read the other thread and learned the only problem if I get the Paragon gaskets will be with the " "GM' marked end seal. So how many points lost for the wrong end seal? Also if you don't use the corect end seal, will only using RTV lose more points than the rubber end seal without the "GM"? If your not using the "GM" emposed end seal than RTV may be the better sealer.

            thanks

From a judging standpoint, rtv is worst. and work up from there.
