    69 battery box repair

The battery box on my 69 has a hole in the side next to the positive cable hole where it appears the u joint broke. It is about 4" X6" . Does any one have any suggestions on the best way to repair the hole so that the repair is not too noticeable? Thanks for any help.

I'd rather start with a hole than have to build up fiberglass that's thinned or eroded.

It's no different than any other fiberglass repair. Taper grind about two inches back from the edges of the hole both inside and outside with 36 grit disc. Apply three to four layers of resin and mat to the outside surface against a smooth WAXED form surface on the inside. Roll each layer after application to eliminate air bubbles and insure good saturation. After the lamination cures, grind prep the inside of the repair, and apply three to four layers of resin and mat to the inside surface, again rolling each layer.

Once the second lamination is cured, you can sand the repair flat and smooth as you want it using 80 grit and progressively finer grit sandpaper. If you are a good craftsman, the repair will be barely visible if you used the proper tinted resin.

You can probably also find a donor section from another Corvette. Lots of donors in "Corvette junkyards" if you wish to look for them.
