HEI Distributor Tach Problems

Good Morning All,

I have replaced the stock points distributor in my 70 350CI with a HEI and now my factory tach does not work. Wire is plugged into the "tach" connection on the HEI. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dave

Factory tach in '70-72 was driven off the distributor mechanically. The hei generally does not provide for this feature.

I wonder what wire that might be, since 1970 does not have a factory installed wire for the tachometer.

As Bill stated, the stock tach is mechanically cable driven off the distributor. The standard GM HEI units have no such provision. Your choices are to substitute a later model Corvette tach ('75 and up) or revert to a standard type distributor. Given that the HEI units have no real advantage other than being mtce. free, I'd put the stock distributor back in and forget it.
