What!!? No one does them hot and wet (running) anymore? I still have my clips and the oil burn stains on my hands to remind me how foolish that was to do back in the day. The fumes were fun too. Unless you grew immune to them you'd get one awful headache in a short order, specially when done in the middle of the winter in a garage (doors open of course). You haven't lived, or nearly died, until you tried that.

Thanks for the help.

I followed the same process on all of the valves. The engine starts right up and runs well. However it continues to have the same noise it did that prompted me to adjust the valves in the first place. On the passengers side there is a clear audible clacking noise. The drivers side seems nice and quiet. I have often been told that is how it is, but why on one side. I have ruled out the noise coming from the heat riser by securing it in place temporarily. Any thoughts?

What Bill found was the old "punch press" rocker. I've had those back in the old days too. They sure can wreck a good feeler gauge in a hurry.

set one cylinder hot and then wait till the next day and see what that cylinder reads cold and there you have your cold settings
