    Sill Plate Screws - Finish....

    Hey All ...

Is the correct finish on these screws black oxide or phosphate?
The JM on on page 23 says "oxide" - just wanted to be sure before I work on the screws.

I searched the archives and found a couple interesting threads.

One thread had a post from Patrick Hulst -
If you happen to see this thread Patrick, could you tell me the manufacturer of the flat black expoxy paint and can it be purchased at Home Depot???

    Thanks in advance....

        The GM #9423258 screw was 10-16 X 3/4" with a PHOSPHATE finish.

          many thanks....

Now need to figure how to get the screws processed with black phosphate. Don't really feel like paying a couple hundred bucks to have 8 screws refinished.

Patrick Hulst mentioned in an older thread (archive) that he used an epoxy paint that gave the correct look and hardened with a porcelain like finish.

The screws are available in reproduction with the correct finish. How close are they otherwise to the originals? I don't know. However, for just a few bucks you could buy a set and judge for yourself.

              Sounds like a good plan.

Which repro vendor would you suggest using?
I have always had good luck with Paragon for bolts/nuts/ etc...

I think that Paragon reproduces them, but their parts are also available from most of the other Corvette parts vendors like Dr. Rebuild, etc.

                  Hi Bill
I was looking through my stash of sill plate screws and they are of a black phosphate. I remember seeing some originals and they had surface rust near the bottom of the screw and near the top you can see the phosphating.
If you need yours done send them to me and I'll do them for you.....No charge. I still have 20 gallons of the Zinc phosphate at home.
Send me an email to grantwong@telus.net and I'll send you my mailing address.
                  Thanks, Grant
