I think you can find the term "parkerized" using the Search option above.

You can find a better explanation by googling. It's commonly used on firearms, and a common automotive use is on camshafts to aid in the break-in process. All GM OE camshafts are Parkerized as are F-M and Dana replacements. Among aftermarket vendors, Crane is the only one I know of that Parkerizes cams, and that's why I only recommend these three manufacturers for replacement camshafts.

I question whether Parkerizing was used on the bolt for a simple non-critical, non-structural application. It looks a lot like phophate, which is an inexpensive process that provides modest corrosion resistance.

The JG description is in error; GM didn't Parkerize bolts. I think they meant "phosphated".

Chris, most common is the round no logo same as the photo previously posted. B, BC logos have also been seen. L logos use was common in 56-7 and probably were used as well. Gary....

I'd sure like to see the GM drawing for that bolt (#100118) to see what finish was specified; having spent a good hunk of my career at Chevrolet Engineering and being familiar with the constant cost pressures on release engineers, I can't imagine them spending any money for a premium finish on a Grade 2 bolt that spends its entire life in a hot oil mist.
