    Tank Sticker Condition

How nice of tank stickers have some of you found. I know how rough they can be, but are there some photos on how nice they can be (real ones)

    Thanks,

    Tim

Mine was almost perfect. Very legible, just a few rust stains.

Here is a really bad attempt to "manufacture" a phony '67 tank sticker with an L-89 engine. There are about 4 versions of this same sticker. Even the font is wrong!

Because the tank was leaking the previous owner of my car removed the tank in 1998. This is the picture he took of the tank and sticker. The reason I think it's in such good shape is the car has less than 50000 miles on it and it was always garaged and was used as a 2ed car for most of its life.

              Hi Tim,
Here's one from my 71; not perfect at all, but nice to find.
              Hi Jack,
The hand written number is the job number assigned at St. Louis. You'll find it written in various places on the under body.
              Regards,
              Alan

I retrieved these pictures from an early thread named Tank Sticker.

Where else is a build sheet available if it is not on the tank. The one I am looking at does not have the pencil build number and is in "very" nice condition. This particular car has other paper but I am very suspicious of the "tank sheet" as represented.

                      Re: Tank Sticker Condition

The tank sticker was the only spot on 67s for factory paperwork ATTACHED to the car.

They also had a protecto plate that would help you determine engine, trans, rear end and colors, but not options. Dealer order form would help, but those are RARE, as are shipping invoices.

Actually some options are shown on the PoP. Check your copy of the AIM to tell you which options are coded into the PoP and what those codes are.

As you know, everything can be "reproduced" these days. If it is in very nice condition and has no penciled in number, I would be very suspicious. If no other "authentic" paperwork is present, caveat emptor.

                              Michael,

There is other paper including the POP (that's real) as well as the dealer invoice, order form, inspection sheet, and a bulletproof owner history (3). The build or "tank" shhet is jus too nice for me.

                              Thanks,

                              Tim
