Re: Muncie Transmission Tag 3880853
Larry, While I haven't seen these come up that often, it may be due to my search settings - but these seem to be real pricey compared to the reproduction or other trany parts. The last main 5010 case went for barely 100$...
I think I know this guy too...I'll check.- Top

I thought reproductions were pushing $20. The real thing for $25 seems like a much better deal to me, no?

Re: Muncie Transmission Tag 3880853
Very neat marketing. For that sale referenced one guy is going to buy two that he does not need for the one he does and there will be other guys that will want the 8xx so each will go for the moon to get the one they want and then sell the others later. Then again, the others might not be worth 2 cents...
There is a pile of these somewhere if you are not in a terrible hurry. And generally if you have a car that looks like it has had some use before making it a museum piece the original will look better.- Top

Re: Muncie Transmission Tag 3880853
Here's the pic(s), as promised. I also include a 3857579 as the equivalent for '65s (the large plastic driven gears green 22; black 23; yellow 24; orange 25), ratio 3.70 and 4.11.
The "853" is for '66 with the same, which, in 1967, also includes the green gear for the 3.55 ratio (yes, the same as the 3.70) per Chev speedo charts.- Top

Re: Muncie Transmission Tag 3880853
There is a vendor from Long Island, NY, that is a vendor at the Carlisle swap meet (Spring & Fall) that sells the original tags for $5 each. He had a stack of them, maybe 30 or 40 of them. If you go to Carlisle in April just ask all the vendors that specialize in rebuilding and selling 4-speed Muncies. I bought four of his "3952659 WB" tags for my 1970 Camaro SS350. It's always nice to have extras.Last edited by David L.; March 31, 2010, 09:19 AM.- Top
