I have a early 63 split
just purchased 1119910 correct solenoid , I was wondering is it painted black or have plating on the solenoid housing ??

All starter solenoid bodies were plated. The question is whether or not there was paint over the plating. In general, we've seen some solenoids unpainted and others painted.

The JG books for '56-62 are silent on the issue of the solenoid's finish. But, the lion's share that I've seen from that era WERE painted black. So, consult your National Team Leader as to what's typical for your car before you decide on the proper finish for the solenoid body...
