Delco painted the entire starter as a unit,so the case,drive end and commutator end should ALL be painted semi-flat black.Some of the solenoids were painted, some were plated silver zinc.Comment

John, thanks for replying - so to summarize, what is shown in the picture needs painting - that being the back half of the starter that goes in the bell housing?
Sometimes the solenoid was painted, and sometimes not...Comment
