    TI distributor testing

I'm putting the racecar back to it's original configuration so I dug out my old TI distributor that came with the car. I'd like to test it first to make sure that the distributor portion( not the box) is working. When I put my milliamp meter on it and spind it buy hand it generates about .01 MA. This is just a slow hand spin. Seems like I remember they either work or don't . Is this normal? Jerry

Looking for a MIN of 1.4 VOLTS, not amps, at 800 rpm turning CCW

i use the AC volts setting and with a quick hand spin it shows about 1 volt on a analog meter

Got it! I hooked up the AC voltemeter and gave it a spin and got 1.3 volts. Thanks guys. One less thing to worry about. Jerry

A static resistance check is usually all you need to do. I think the spec is the same as the HEI pickup coil - a few hundred ohms.

This won't check the magnet's gauss & 600-700 ohms is what it should have.

I've never heard of a TI or HEI loosing its magnetic flux, but given enough time...

It will weaken over time and chips and hidden cracks make it worse-nothing is forever, except tax increases!
