    59-60 F.I.Fuel Filter Cannister

I know Ford used to have a fuel filter assy. that was very similar to that used on the 59-60 FI engines ( can't remember the part #), BUT, does anyone out there know if anyone is reproducing one for the vette or any company that has NOS ones? Also, anyone remember the Ford part # ? TIA

Be leary of using a repro 59 to 61 FI fuel filter assembly. Serious problems could arise from using one. Serious money problems too.
We called them repros but in fact they were not repros at all but reworked originals that had a round tube on each end instead of an inlet and outlet fitting.
To install the new fittings in place of the tube the cannister insert-inner lining had to be removed.
My friend did a first class job soldering on new fittings. But he had to then reinstall the inner lining. So he expoxied it in place.
Well over time the expoxy broke loose and managed to get into the FI unit which brought it to a screaching halt.
      Talk about unhappy campers. Whew!!!!

I see Donald Heckenberg said the part number started with FD-22, etc.
      Motorcraft-Ford one I have is FG-22 B71-9155A.
Meanwhile Ford had two variations of this filter assembly. One had the 5/16" fittings and the other had the 3/8" fittings.
For a while someone on ebay was selling the 3/8 fitting job as correct for a Corvette. I notified this person several times but got no reply.,
Probably the biggest pain filter ever made for an old FI car is this filter.
A lot of owners have broken their fuel meter inlet fitting area by using teflon (yuk) tape and split the casting. When they do that it's all over and they they need nice new fuel meter cover.
Ford sold these filters in various colors. Black, Burgundy, and Don said Gold.
      Corvette ones were zincad.
Holley sold a ton of them that were chrome plated. Selling price used to be 6 bucks in old days. There were various configurations of fittings used on that filter can.
The filter to inlet fitting on the FI is being reproduced. Known original fittings were zincad plated steel. The repro is cad plated brass.
NOS ones go for 350.00 and up at the fleas and on line. Then you have to get them plated. That's a story in itself. Do not ever glass bead one of those filters. The glass gets trapped in the inner lining and later puts a job on the FI unit. Needless to say I have no love for this filter. I have none for sell either. Good luck, JD

Hi John, by any chance do you remember the Holley # or the application (year, model? ) of the Ford this filter fit ? Donald, are the fittings on yours 5/16 or 3/8. I have a chrome one which I bought at Charlotte Auto Fair back in the 90s that was in a Ford box but I don't know if it is Ford or if it was a Holley put into a Ford box. TIA

Al, Number is in the above posts. Not going to do you any good though as Ford hasn't had them in many years.

So you have chrome Holley in a box Al, Well go see if a 5/16" brake line screws into it. If it does you are in business except for the chrome. The filter should be cadmium plated.
Your chrome Holley filter was readily available at speed shops in the old days. Was somewhat of a generic filter. I used to buy that at the racers flea markets for peanuts.
Ford guys here will inform you that Holley and Ford are the related. John.

I have one too, bought decades ago...still in the Motorcraft box. Mine is crappy black paint, but I don't know what's under that; 5/16 fittings.

Translation of B7T-9155-A: originally released for a 1957 Truck!

So now you are all set Don. You just need an adapter fitting that goes from the filter to the FI unit. Now be careful my friend as you do not want to overtighten that fitting going into the plenum cover (lid). If you do you will split the casting. Do not use teflon tape.
Try this trick. Loctite 545 hydraulic sealant. Available at Travers Tool, MSC, McMaster Carr. Not at auto stores.
It's magic and I live by it. A little goes a long way. Use a Q-tip to apply the 545.
Put the adapter fitting in the filter assembly first. Then just screw in the top 1/2 of the filter by hand. No wrench. Use the 545 and set the filter at an angle to clear the hi-pressure pump. Let the sealant dry and you are done. Then put the o'ring on and the element and can. Put the can on snug but don't kill it.
Watch the repro fuel line from the engine fuel pump to the Holley filter Don.
Typically the line is too close to the valve cover. This boils the gas before it hits the FI. If this is the case do whatever it takes to fix the issue. JD
