Unless your plan is to get involved in some real serious judging with the car, my recommendation is to get a reproduction clock with a quartz movement. This clock will appear virtually identical to the original, it will keep good time, and it will do it for a LONG time. I think these things cost about 75 bucks.

Otherwise, you could send your clock out to have it repaired/restored and the facility could likely replace the lost parts. But, I think it will end up costing you about the same and if the clock makes it beyond the warranty period, you'll be lucky.

Had to read this thread simply because I've never seen the words 'cheap' and 'Corvette' in the same sentence before.

Lawerence, I agree with Joe. The quartz movement "sweeps" the second hand while the original "tic toc's" its way around the dial. This is a job you can do yourself too so there's no need to send it out. Like yours, mine failed, so I purchased a quartz replacement kit, used my same clock, removed the old mechanisim and replaced it with the new quartz movement. The instructions are very detailed and tell you. step by step, what to do. The new clock also uses less power then the old unit as well and works great. I can't remember the name of the company off hand that sells these but I can look it up if you can't find it. Let me know. Cost was about $75 I think.

I replaced the movement in my 79 clock with a quartz replacement. It took about 3/4 of a hour on my kitchen table. Once you reinstall it, and plug it in it works perfectly and has for many years. And yes, it was cheap, something that very rearly happens to a corvette repair job. Looking at it you can't tell anything was done to the clock.

Another question if I get the kit to change over to the quartz movement how do you change the time as the shaft with gear to change my old clock time is broken does this have button to change time or what?

The quartz movement uses the same shaft-style setting mechanism as the original clock. I have forgotten, though, if a new shaft mechanism is supplied with the quartz movement. That's why I suggested that you purchase the complete reproduction clock with an already-installed quartz movement. That way, all you need to do is to remove the old clock and install the new. Dr. Rebuild sells the complete clock assembly with quartz movement for 149 bucks. The quartz movement by itself costs 78 bucks.

                  Cousin? Jim,

From a judging perspective the sweeping second hand is a dead give away of a repro clock and will get a deduct. Not sure if the OP is interested in that aspect though.

Instrument Services, Inc actually makes the clocks (link below).
Ive purchased direct from them and they were cheaper than the catalogs.
I put a "regular" clock in the 72 seven years ago and it works just fine.

In addition, I don't believe the quartz clock will have the audible snap, or pop you can hear when an original "rewinds" itself, and I would think the lack of this might also draw a deduction and/or PV failure.

If you compare the new and old clock, I think you'll find that they are virtually identical in appearance, anyway.
