Painted Heater Box and Trunk Cardboard

Picked up an original cardboard '57 heater box and trunk card board that have been painted. Is there anyway to remove the paint without damaging the pieces?

    Thanks!

Cardboard and water don't mix very well. But I would either repaint to the color you want or try a little paint thinner on a rag and lightly rub a test section. Do not saturate. See how that works.
