    Fan shroud bolts

Lost a point at Kissimmee for fan shroud bolts, notation says they should be pointed bolts. Judging manual says "6 plated bolts with lock washers", which is what venders sell. assembly manual shows bolts with seperate lockwashers also. I can't find 5/16 pointed, plated, bolts with seperate lockwashers. Most pointed body type bolts are black with a washer head or captured flat washer. Is the judging manual incorrect?
    Thanks, Chuck

    Chuck,

There could be 2 choices for 65 fan shroud bolts. Flat tip and pointed. You are correct on corvettes there were no 5/16-18 pointed tip bolts that did not have a captured flat washer. I have seen more flat tip bolts used for this application, however one of the last cars I worked on was a 65 and it had pointed tip bolts (same as hood hinge). I have never read the 65 judging manual so I don't know what it says but from my experiance it should allow for both pointed and flat tip.

      Chuck,

My 65 uses these for the 6 fan shroud and 3 upper rad. mount which uses large flat washers as well as the lock washer. No points here.

        Jim,

Thats excatly what I'd expect to see. They look like they are 3/4" I also see 7/8" used here. RSC, SBC, E, UR, RBW, TR WB, WB1C and more. All grade 2 just like yours.

Thanks Rich and Jim, sounds like the "M" bolts I used from paragon will be good. Chuck M.
