Re: 57 oil dipstick
Chris,
I have what I believe is an original 3722959 dipstick that I removed from a 56 Chevrolet with 265 engine stamped "0027077" and "T56F" on the front pad from a junk yard back in 1991. According to my Chevrolet parts catalog the 3722959 dipstick was used on 56-57 Chevrolets (8 cyl.) and late 56-57 Corvettes. The dipstick is embossed "ADD" and "FULL" along with embossed arrowheads at the marks. The marks are spaced about 21/32" apart. The handle part has a very small letter "E" (stamped, not embossed). I am not sure if the L56-57 Corvette dipsticks were made by the same company (with the "E" stamping).
Condition:
Most of the stick part is in good condition except for the top 4" of the stick part which has some minor rust pitting. Most of the handle part is in good condition except the "loop" has some obvious pitting. The stop washer and felt gasket are missing. The measured distance from the bottom end to where the stop washer would be is 21 9/16" which matches with the 1957 Chev. parts catalog description. It can be restored. I will sell it at a very reasonable price. If interested send me a message. I can send you pictures.
I also have the 1989 GM version of the 3722959 dipstick. The only thing both dipsticks have in common is the measurement from the stop washer to the full mark (about 19 1/2"). The newer Chevrolet parts catalogs show this dimension "A" as 19 31/64".

Re: 57 oil dipstick
Is there a difference in the length of the 56/57 Corvette and 56/57 Chevrolet dip stick?
Seems to me that Kayser had pointed that out to me once before. Something to do with the different oil pans.

Re: 57 oil dipstick
Hi, you can find them dips sticks on Ebay regularly from the 1970's. The pans are not really that much deeper than are longer on the lowest part. The stock dip stick will work because the oil level will fill higher with the extra quart of oil in the deeper sump to meet the standard oil stick as on passenger cars.......BUT, I may be corrected by a different part # by a fellow member if there was a change in design. Hope this helps.......- Top
