    headlight motor test

My newly purchased '64 needing complete restoration has original headlight motors that don't open (bulbs and bezels missing). No telling if it is the switch, harness, motors or what. I have another pair of motors and would like to test both the motors on the car and those on the bench. Is there a simple way to test them? I don't want to apply voltage directly to a motor without some guidance on which terminal, what to expect, etc. I don't have a shop manual or wiring digram yet.

    Thanks for any advice

    Doug -

The round connector on the motor has two spade terminals - one is UP, and the other is DOWN, and the motor case is ground (there's a small threaded hole in the case for the ground screw when it's installed). Attach the ground wire from your power source to the motor case, and touch the +12V wire to each terminal - one should make the motor run one way, and the other terminal should make it run the other way.
