54 Vette brake pedal shaft

I have what I believe is an original 54 brake pedal bracket, brake pedal and brake pedal pivot pin shaft. As on the 56-62 Vettes, my pivot pin shaft slides in to hold the pedal to the bracket but it is different from the 57-62 shaft and has no ear to hold the shaft to the bracket - it is just a shaft that will slide through the bracket. What holds the pivot pin shaft in place?

I think I am missing something.

Don't know the answer off hand but could use the parts you have if for some reason you don't need them.
