Gill inserts on a 68, should I or no?

I want them but I have a couple problems with them thats holding me back. First off I'm an original kinda guy or I wouldn't be here and this wasn't an option on the 68 model. However, my car as it sits now IMO is kinda bland, I feel it needs a little something to spruce it up since the 68 doesn't have the stingray badge or the gills to me looks a bit bland so thought the inserts would spruce it up a bit. For example I really wanted to go with redline tires but since my car isn't a real bright color or anything I wanted white letters to kinda bring it out.

2nd I do not want to drill holes into my car, so anyone done it and like cut the heads of the screw off to make it look screwed in but attach them another way? btw I checked the price on them they're proud of those little dinky things! they were like $179 I think.

on the fence, what u think? yay, or nay

anyone that has a 68 with them post a pic or 2 if you would please.

Brandon, I know what you mean they do look great on the 69 cars, maybe the two sided tape that 3M makes will adhere the gills to the fender and like you said cut of some screw heads and glue them in.

Liking the gills, looks fine to me with them on the 68 without the stingray badge.

I think that chrome would look good since mine is a dark color, still not wanting to put holes in my car tho.

I think the chrome gills would look great on your car. It would be sharp with the dark color.

            Hi Brandon,
I think the gill trim looks good.
I believe you can use the trim, and still be an "original kinda of guy and be here."
            Regards,
            Alan

            Nice looking 68!

                Hey Brandon,
I bought my '68 3 years ago and it had gill inserts already attached.
I am a stock/original type, but they look great and the fact that were attached with screws meant that it was going to need patching and paint.
I happen to like the look a lot.
Now, ask me about the passenger side view mirror someone put on before I bought it and I will give you an entirely different answer........
                BTW, like the new shoes.

                  Brandon,

I have always liked the chrome "gills" louvers too. Last year I started a thread about very small holes in the louvers my '68 had when I bought it. The holes were too small for the conventional louver attaching bolts but were in the correct position for the chrome louvers. I thought that possibly these were guide holes and that all 68's had them. Wishful thinking, they weren't. Some owner before me decided that a very small hole was a better way to attach them. So I bought the chrome louvers last year and purchased the smallest diameter bolt with the largest head I could find and put them on. It worked great! For judging, I'll take the chrome louvers off and take the hit of a couple of points for the tiny holes in the "gills". It should not be more than 4 points if that.

If your anything like me Brandon, your next project to spruce up your '68 will be the finned hubcaps. They are good looking on any C-3.

I like the car better without the louvers but it's your car so do what you like.
