    "Donut" spare for a 63

    Is it possible to find a "donut" rim with a bolt pattern to match the patter for a C2?

    Get a spare donut from a Chevy S10 around 2001 02. Bill

      Steve;

      Wow! That's a tall order. I for one, as a 63 owner, would not want to use a smaller size wheel and tire for very darn long - specially if you still have bias ply tires and posi. What be the practical gain here? Weight in the tub?

      I'll be watching for your responses on this.

        Stu

        I have 6" rims with radial tires. I'm just checking options for spares that will fit the tub. I have checked the archives and read the posts about the longer tub bolts, and that's one of the options.

          Most all full sized GM cars had them, I use them during restoration because the car is easier to roll around with the skinny tires. They are quite plentiful at junkyards. I prefer the station wagon spares.

            I agree with Mark, the junk yards are full of the donut rims and tires.
            I have one in my 62 Corvette and in 20,000 miles it has never left the trunk.

              Another option, like what I did for our 63 with 5- 205x15 Coker Classic radials mounted on later rally wheels(6" I think?) ......

              I replaced the two forward tub support bolts with the longer ones used for later C2's with knock-off wheels. The spare Coker fits in there ok, only drawback is the tub cover sits down a little more.

              Can't see the entire back of the tub in this photo, but you may notice it sticks down a tad more. Can't take another photo for you.....the car was sold recently and on it's way to Austria!

                Steve:

                Why not use a standard 5" or 5-1/2" rim with your choice of tire as a dedicated spare. The tub was designed for it and it will be more stable and safer to run than a donut.

                  I thought I could find a donut more easily than a 15X5 rim and would use it unil I found the regular rim. I am currently looking for both.

                    So I take my tape measure to the junk yard and look for 15" donuts with 4.75" between opposite holes? Is there any interchange reference?

                      Steve -

                      Photo below of a "late 90's S-10 donut spare" on a midyear. This link has everything you ever wanted to know about wheel measurements:
