    73 Seat Bolts

Of the 4 seat mounting bolts, should there be one or two bolts with the sharp end? If only one, where does it go?
    Thanks!

Earlier cars had pointed bolts with captive washer at all four corners. SEMS is one headstamp used for seat mounting bolts in 70.

Pointed, self-tapping bolts or screws are generally used for applications with body bolting plates; the point allows the fastener to be quickly and easily piloted into a smaller predrilled hole in the bolting plate and threads cut as the fastener is torqued. Other styles of self-tapping machine screws may only be tapered slightly on the end and not fully pointed; the taper is enough for the screw lead to engage the bolting plate material.

Do your non-pointed bolts have headstamps?...If so, what are they?

      Chuck -

I've never seen a self-tapping/thread-cutting bolt used for seat attachment; that style of bolt is only used in plain, unthreaded holes. Seat bolt anchor plates have machine-threaded holes or weld-nuts to accept straight machine-threaded bolts (at least they did when they left St. Louis).

No self-tapping ones here either, but I have seen the pointed tips most of the time.

My mistake, John...I assumed the pointed end bolts used for the seats were self-tapping.
